2012 brought us both Les adieux à la reine (titled "Farewell, My Queen" in English-language regions) and Les Misèrable.
The former is a telling of Queen Marie's love for a fan, Sidonie Laborde (played by Léa Seydoux, know for portraying Emma in lesbian romance Blue Is the Warmest Colour). It's not the best politically, but queer women are nice.
And Les Misèrable is a big ol' tentpole musical about a convicted petty thief trying to make his way in a revolutionary France.
