@threeofswords @derek strong agree. Im back one day and people are already being hella wrong on the internet

@derek lol at the fedi for believing there's a demographic difference between the nerds voting sci-fi and the dweebs voting horror

@radicalrobit is this the law of triviality I keep hearing about

@radicalrobit @derek I voted for The Thing even though I haven't seen it all the way through (it's too scary for me). I like Blade Runner alright, but it's just a beautiful visual. The Thing is actually a movie, a movie that's so good at what it does that I can't sit through it.

@vincentj @radicalrobit @derek I'm reminded of A Simple Plan, the movie so tense I had to watch it over two nights. I've never had that experience otherwise and I respect it tremendously because of it

@derek
"The thing... has lost the #moviebowl
like #toots in the rain
time... for the next round"

(with sincere apologies to Rutger Hauer and Ridley Scott)

@derek I’m relieved to have seen this too late to vote. Has saved me a day of tormented indecision.

1982 #MovieBowl Semifinal results

@derek incidentally it's cathartic to see the Thing beat ET like a rented mule when ET played such a large role in the Thing flopping initially (cute friendly aliens were in, and devouring monstrosities from the depths of space and time were out)

@derek I know I'm in the minority on this one, but I was never impressed with Blade Runner.

@paulference @derek I wasn't either but I guess I picked it based on lasting effects on pop culture, staying power

@paulference @derek I only saw it in the last year or two and was just kinda like "oh that's it?"
